SHAmory Supports Clean Water Project in Nigeria

We love working with our parters at the Built with Bitcoin Foundation. So when we had a chance to help support their latest clean water project in Nigeria, it was a quick, “YES!” from us.

What got built?

Through generous donations from SHAmory, along with the Bitcoin Bottle, Paxful and Bitcoin Magazine, the Built with Bitcoin Foundation was able to build a water well in Nigeria, which will provide villagers with clean drinking water and quality bitcoin education. Thanks to this project, the Igbaruku community, with over 1,000 villagers, will no longer need to use a contaminated and unsafe water source that is miles away.

Why is this project important?

According to a UNICEF report, the use of contaminated drinking water and poor sanitary conditions result in increased vulnerability to water-borne diseases. Only 26.5 per cent of the population use improved drinking water sources and sanitation facilities. Clean water, basic toilets and good hygiene practices are essential for the survival and development of children. The use of contaminated drinking water and poor sanitary conditions result in increased vulnerability to water-borne diseases, including diarrhea which leads to deaths of more than 70,000 children under five annually.

How did Bitcoin help bring this to life?

In order to build the well, the Built with Bitcoin Foundaiton raised the equivalent of $6,000 in bitcoin donations. Being able to raise funds in a currency that allows people and companies from around the world to donate is part of the magic of the Bitcoin network. Besides raising the funds in bitcoin, the Igbaruku community was able to be educated in bitcoin as the well was being built. This education was provided by the Built with Bitcoin Foundation in the community’s native language. It warms our hearts to know that our game and book are a part of this important educational work!
